At around 4 to 6 months of age, turkeys begin to show secondary sex characteristics, such as the shape of their heads and the size and color of their wattles and snood. These characteristics are more prominent in male turkeys, which are commonly referred to as toms or gobblers, than in female turkeys, which are called hens. To determine the sex of a turkey accurately, it is best to consult an expert or a veterinarian who is experienced in identifying turkeys' gender.
